I first obtained the passion to be a DJ at the age of 9. My father was known, at the time, as DJ HDO. He was a DJ and also a musician that played with many local bands throughout the 80s

As a young boy, I was exposed to music from all different genres from Soul, R&B, Blues, Rock, and of course Hip Hop. Coming up I found the craft of being a DJ intriguing. Watching my father as he would play (what is now considered Old School) the likes of Rufus, The Ojays, Prince, The Temptations, and BB King. He would also play the music that would make people enjoy the moment; whether it was at parks, venues, or even someone’s backyard. It was during that time I said, "This is something I want to do." Throughout my teenage years, I did just that, being a DJ at local parties, even for free most times.

DJing became a passion of mine just to make people happy through music. Fast forward many years later I made a name for myself as, ''DJ Mase" and founded my company "M.A.S.E. Entertainment" an acronym meaning "Music Always Satisfying Emotions.” I have been a DJ professionally for a little over 10 years, but it has been my passion for over 30yrs.

My greatest joy of being a DJ is bringing great vibes to people, no matter what they are going through, because indeed Music Always Satisfies Emotions!

Well I sort of got thrown into being a DJ. At the time I was working for Tossin’ Ted and managing a group that KING ODIE (DJ) had and it was a lot of DJ equipment around. I started messing with the equipment and got good with it and been deejaying ever since now for over 20yrs plus. I started off working for tossing Ted at Pro Jocks Entertainment doing wedding receptions.  He brought Lil Jon to STL to Incahoots and I was asked to DJ; it was my first big gig.  Incahoots asked me to come back and then I started deejaying clubs from that point forward. I’ve deejayed at The Loft, The Monastery, The Wax Factory, as well as other venues throughout St. Louis. Having traveled to different areas all over, I noticed that St. Louis deejays are technically better. St. Louis deejays can do better transitions in between records and have better mixes. Other deejays outside of St. Louis can “hype” the crowd better, and that could be because they may lack certain skills when it comes to deejaying. The culture to me is very important. People need to understand that being a DJ today is different from back in the day. DJs today have to be more personable. You definitely have to use social media, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. DJs today really don’t have to be as skilled like you did back in the day. We have controllers now where a long time ago it was just turntables. Anyone can become a DJ with a great mentor working beside them. It just takes a lot of practice and dedication to deejay plus you also want to like what you do. I’m working on some mixtapes, and there are a couple of artists that I’m in talks with, but my main focus is on rebuilding my brand “HittBreaka DJs”.
